5th Jan 2007, 8:12 AM #176You have my condolences!
Actually a Torchwood boxset wouldn't be too bad, but as Torchwood was a series of two halves, with the later being considerably better than the first half, I'd feel a bit peeved shelling out for the first part of the season and not having the better episodes on it.
By the way, we got the box set for a very good price - about 13 including P&P, so we're doubly pleased with it.

Wouldn't call it a box set, 2 discs... I rented it from the library (perks of the job)...

Reading Si's post, i'm reminded of a line from an original Star Trek episode:
"Try to cross swords with Spock, & he'll cut you to pieces everytime."

What an interesting list of items! I like the sound of 'french fancies'.
Also, i never expected to read of anyone buying a yoyo! Are you paying hommage to the 4th Doctor?
And Gold Top milk. Blast from the past! Do they still sell milk in bottles up there? I haven't seen an actual bottle of milk for years!

It's clearly someone timewarped from the 1920's. I suspect french fancies are the cakes otherwise known as "fondant fancies", coloured iced sponge cakes available from ye old bakery of Mr Kipling.

I have a library yoyo. It's a bit cheap and nasty though.

Are they called Fondant fancies? I've always called them French Fancies, and the Pink ones ALWAYS taste best.
I Have always loved Yoyo's and i own dozens of them. I was in woolworths one day with a chum, and she came dashing towards me with a look of glee clutching a packet of 10 yoyo's that she found, which was amusing because i had found various other ones, we must have looked like a couple of yoyo nutters.
Gold Top is still sold, Tesco Asda and Sainsbury all stock it in various stores. But if you pop into Harvey Nichols, Fortnum and Masons, Jenners or Mellis (and no doubt various other small and specialist shops) you can get 'Grahams Jersey Milk' which is the best gold top ever and the first glass of milk always gets the tickets most delicious blob of cream on the top of it! Afraid they are only ever in plastic bottles though.

I popped into Harvey Nichols in Edinburgh a few weeks ago to see if I could find ex-Blue Peter presenter Romana D'Annunzio. She's meant to be working on one of the make-up counters.

Only ever pop into Jenners to check out the toy department. Fortnum & Mason is too chavvy for me.Last edited by Milky Tears; 5th Jan 2007 at 6:26 PM.

Romana does indeed work there, still at least her career is on the up, she used to work in a coffee shop before BP! I keep meaning to go and ask her for her autograph but i'm worried it just laugh if i tried.
The Jenners toy department is such a thing of wonder, i'll have to pop in this weekend.

Talking of yoyos, didn't there used to be a a chocolate biscuit called YoYo in the 70s/80s - in a green packet and mint flavoured?

Yo-yo's were pretty much like Viscounts. The Yo-yo brand was discontinued by United Biscuits in 2003.
