Ten Random Things You Lurve About Who
I'm surprised we haven't revived this old ezBoard favourite already, but since Mr McCow's revival of the New Series version has reminded me, here it is. So today's 10 Random things I love about Doctor Who in the 20th Century are, or were, or will be...
1. The way McCoy hangs his umbrella in his jacket pocket (see Battlefield part 1 for a classic example)
2. The way the logo in the TVM suddenly turns around - in a hotel room in America, nobody can hear you punch the air in delight, but my golly it happened!
3. Dudley Simpson's City of Death score.
4. Being able to hear Hartnell still hammering away at Bennett's door in "The Rescue" even though the camera has cut back to the other set and the next scene! Woe betide the RT if Mark Ayres 'corrects' that moment of pure gold when it comes up for DVD.
5. The first shot of Hurndall in "The Five Doctors".
6. The pre-credits sequence to "Time and the Rani".
7. Tegan's lovely, flowing outfit from "Frontios"...
8. "Get K9 to explain it to you, good luck!"
9. The cliffhanger to part 2 of "The Twin Dilemma".
10. My Target of "The Sontaran Experiment".

1. Adric's big old bottom in "Full Circle". All wet and see-through.
2. Jamie's swaying 'will it or won't it' kilt in "The Invasion"
3. Turlough's behind in "Mawdryn Undead". Tight trousers!
4. Kamelion's shiny peaches in "The Kings Demons"
5. It's Adric again, with a spectacular arse shot in "Logopolis".
6. The bottom of the pit in "Mark of the Rani"
7. Bruno Langley's bottom - just in general.
8. Jake's rump from "Rise of the Cybermen". We don't get a good look at it sadly, but we can imagine.
9. Peter Davison's bulge, star of many a photo shoot.
10. Bruno Langley.

1) "The Androids of Tara", The Doctor (having been promised that Grendel and his men will not harm him if he exits the pavilion), steps out the pavilion door only to be shot at. He ducks back inside, shuts the door...and a moment later, opens the door to stick his head out and shout, "LIAR!"

1. 'Quiet Victoria!', from the Web of Fear censor clips. There's just something about the wife-beating urge to his voice, particularly when stripped of the context of whatever made her noisy in the first place. I say it ANY time something is noisy in my presence...
2. Everyone Wants An Adric! A trend spotted when watching the eps in order - virtually every guest star he meets sort of adopts him as a protoge, and/or makes him an indispensible part of their evil scheme. Aukon, the Master, Monarch, Richard Mace, that mad bloke in Kinda...
3. Ace hating the Happiness Patrol within seconds, before we get ANYWHERE with the message of the piece - she just doesn't like bright happy things. No other character would do this, and I wholeheartedly agree with her.
4. The scream at the cliffhanger to Snakedance Part 1, and the fact that we had NO idea it was coming when we decided to make a game of joining with, and attempting to best, every scream we encountered in the story. Best part of all? It's REPRISED.
5. Vicki and Steven's criminally short partnership, they're just a joy together.
6. Horror of Fang Rock, as read by my cousin at about 15. Every possible sentence was made excrutiatingly rude, and it was a delight.
7. The way I forget before every single time I watch them that Seasons 11, 18 and 23 have their own title sequence. They still seem new and spiffy.
8. 'Heartbeat Chase', the tense music early on in the Macra Terror.
9. The Ballad of the Last Chance Saloon, and the inevitably with which I would sing it when walking past the 'Last Chance' party's election propoganda at uni.
10. Seeing some random part of a story and having to wait YEARS before I get the rest - because, growing up in the VHS era, this was an inexpressibly rare occurence; you either got the whole story in order or not at all. Tuning in during exam block to the cliffhanger of Colony In Space Part 3 and *desperately* wanting the time to see the story around it - then coming home to find that Dad in his otherwise religious taping had BLOODY WELL MISSED THE FIRST PART. Or seeing half of the Daemons before the girl who had it moved away forever. Or seeing the cliffhanger leading in to Coronas of the Sun and waithing eight more years for the episode to even be *released*. Nothing like that ridiculously delayed payoff...

1. The way Anneke Wills says "Smuggler's Booty!" in the audio of 'The Smugglers'.
2. The scene in 'Curse Of Fenric' where the Doctor forges the two signatures.
3. The felt-tipped 'Fast Return Switch'.
4. The Tardises within Tardises in Logopolis Ep.1.
5. When The Doctor & Ace walk off at the end of Survival Ep.3.
6. "Not quite Brigadier, it's his tomb" from The Five Doctors.
7. The cliff-hanger to 'The Time Warrior' Ep.1.
8. Black Orchid.
9. The auton/dummies breaking out in 'Spearhead From Space'.
10. The Doctor laughing uncontrollably at Marco Polo.
I could have filled the whole list up with things from 'The Five Doctors' really.Last edited by Perry Vale; 20th Dec 2006 at 12:41 PM.

This one's hard to explain, but provides much squee.
Many sixties stories have characters that seem to be there for no real reason, and it's not particularly easy to remember who they are. Sometimes they pop up for no reason in Episode 3, or stranger still, they suddenly start having lines for one scene, and then go back to silence. The need to explain this in audio is a BEAUTIFUL thing - all of a sudden completely random names get rattled off (and repeated) to try and give you some idea who's speaking. Ann Davidson, Ralpachan and the Spaniard are *talked about* six times as much as they actually speak. And I still have no idea who any of them are.
