Sounds painful!
It's a fun, if inconsistent story - the episodes in the city, with the trial and the barin creatures are great, but the jungle one is boring as hell. i actually think Hartnell is really good in this one, especially in the courtroom scenes.
Also, in Katherine Schofield, it features one of the most beautiful women ever to appear in Who.

I've only watched this once ever, back in 1990, and that was on a pirate copy. So I'm really looking forward to watching it again after twenty years (almost) - I expect it'll look even better without the eyepatches and wooden legs.
As a kid I loved the book!

In the interest of fairness, I would like to point out that Altos has a great pair of legs.

But whose legs are best, Katherine Schofield's or Altos's? There's surely only one way to find out...

Well I like this story, but what is the joke in this threads title mean?...

I guess it's a reference to Hartnell's delivery of the line about Ian lending Susan his shoes.

it's all in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoxQKGDPtoo at about 1:40.

I love that video. I always laugh when Hartnell fluffs "It's possible they may have been anti-radiation gloves...drugs"

I can't think why they didn't cut that out, or do it again.

Because in those days to do another take, or even to edit the film, would have entailed a huge amount of time and expense. Plus I doubt there was budget to spare on "The Keys of Marinus".

"Marinus" seems like it might have been particular expensive though, doesn't it?

I think that that's quite a charming line - not only is it one of my favourite Hartnell fluffs, and funny as hell, but it's quite accurate: after all, if you were suffering from radiation sickness, I don't imagine you'd be thinking straight, and might make the odd gaffe.
That's the best thing about Bill's errors, that people in real life don't always get what they say right all the time.

They didn't cut fluffs because:
A: the actors were mostly theatre trained, and therefore it was considered professional to carry on after a fluff
B: Video editing was difficult and expensive (literally cutting it with a razor and taping it together again)
C: They had limited time and budget.
So unless the fluffs were total disasters they carried on and they ended up in the show. It is for those reasons that we have things like cameras hitting desks, Daleks running into the set, a Zarbi banging the camera so hard there is a loud thud and a very obvious tilt and shot of the studio ceiling, and fluffed lines in the early episodes: things that would be removed now because it's so much easier to do.

OMG if only they'd cut the fluffs, Doctor Who would still be on TV today. It's so sad.
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

It's just as well we've got the Restoration Team to come along 40 years later and allow us to watch versions of the stories where we can pretend they were made differently.

You see that scanner? Now that is what I call a scanner up there. If you don't like it you can always take it back to Kendall. If the Daleks are doing something drastic, then we... have to stop the Daleks. Now will you shut up, sir!
