Comic Relief Single 2009 is....
Apparantly....
Girls Aloud & Sugababes - Walk This Way.
A cover of the Run DMC / Aerosmith "classic".

Well isn't that good news? A sure fire number one guaranteed MEGA hit! Although I've just clocked that Sugababes and Girls Aloud were different groups in the first place. Hurrah.
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

Girls Aloud would win, they've got five against three.

This would be bizarre! But it should set a prescedent for pop pairings which would lead to the inevitable and much-needed Bunt and Will Young duet.
Si.

I read this in the Daily Star last week, but couldn't find anything online to back it up.
Tweedy and Heidi doing the rap?

19th Dec 2006, 4:39 PM #6Dave Lewis GuestThere's a backseat lover,
that's always undercover
and I talked 'till my daddy say,
said "ya ain't seen nothin till your down on a muffin,
and theres sure to be a change in way"
now theres a cheerleader, that's a real big pleaser
as far as I could reminisce
and the best thing lovin' was your sister and your cousin
and it started with a little kiss, like this
She start swingin' with the boys in school
and her feet are flyin' up in the air
singin' hey diddle diddle with the titty in the middle,
and you swingin' like you just don't care
so I took a big chance at the high school dance
with a lady who was ready to play
it wasn't me she was foolin'
'cause she new what she was doin'
when she told me how to walk this way, she told me to...
walk this way, talk this way
she told me to
walk this way, talk this way
just give me a kiss...like this
school girl sleezy with a classy kinda sassy
little skirt hangin' way up her knee
there were three young ladies in a school gym locker
and I find there were lookin' at 'D'
I was a high school loser never made it with a lady
till the boys told me somethin' i miss
then my next door neighbour
had a daughter, had a favour
and I gave the girl a little kiss, like this
she start swingin' with the boys in the school,
with your feet flyin' up in the air
singin hey diddle diddle
with the titty in the middle
I was swingin' like I didn't care
so I took a big chance at the high school dance
with the miss who was ready to play
wasn't me she was foolin',
'cause she knew what she was doin'
when she told me how to walk this way, she told me to...Last edited by Dave Lewis; 19th Dec 2006 at 4:40 PM. Reason: The dude look like a lady.

It seems a little odd when you'd expect both groups to be about to call it a day after their Greatest Hits albums. I hope neither is splitting up though and a collaboration would be fun but why oh why does it have to be a cover version? Can't people write decent pop songs anymore? Both groups have plenty of strong potential singles on their recent albums so why must it be a cheapo cover?
Still it'd be appropriate having a girl group or two doing it next year which will be the tenth anniversary since the Girls named Spice did the Comic Relief single (with not a cover version in sight) and maybe they could get French, Saunders and Kathy Burke in the video to complete their Comic Relief Girl Group trilogy...

Comic Relief single expected to be big hit
Saturday, January 27 2007, 15:02 GMT
By Daniel Kilkelly
Record stores are expecting to sell 250,000 copies of this year's Comic Relief single.
Girls Aloud and the Sugababes have teamed up to record a cover of Aerosmith's Walk This Way for the charity event, and insiders are tipping it to be one of the year's biggest-selling tracks.
A HMV source told the Daily Star: "Brit music fans can always be relied upon to respond generously to charity releases, particularly when it comes to Comic Relief. But pairing up Girls Aloud with Sugababes is an inspired choice that guarantees the song will be a No. 1 smash hit.
"There will be huge TV and radio support and a final figure of 250,000 isn't unrealistic."

It's been unleashed...it's not as bad as I thought. The chorus is quite shouty and everyone seems to have something to do.

The video has the potential to be the best ever.

If I was directing it I'd make it a bit like "Who Do You Think You Are" with the groups dressed in OTT PVC, Fishnet, hairpieces and trannie make up but rather than simply dancing on stage it all ends in a huge cat fight with cakes being thrown and creamy baps all over the shop.

Let's just have them in PVC and leave it at that.

Shockingly mediocre.
The video isn't bad, but the song is by a long way the worst song either group have ever done. Including I'll Stand By You.

I actually find it unlistenable. I've never been a fan of the original but this is even worse. AWFUL.

Cringeworthy as I think the idea sounds (no, I've yet to be priviliged enough to hear it), I've got to nod to the fact that it's going to be lapped up so much by the masses (even if it were without the Comic Relief seal of approval) that it'll rake in plenty of funds.
Does anybody have a list of all the different Comic Relief singles made? Off the top of my head, the only one I think I liked was Perfect Day...Last edited by cullsoft; 21st Feb 2007 at 11:35 PM.

Not a great cover, least the Sugababes look hot... I don't get why a load of "celebrities" appear at the end, though...

Perfect Day was for Children In Need.
According to wiki the list of Comic Relief singles is:
1986 - "Living Doll" Cliff Richard and the cast of The Young Ones (No. 1)
1987 - "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" Mel & Kim (Mel Smith and Kim Wilde) No. 4
1989 "Help!" Bananarama & La Na Nee Nee Noo Noo (French and Saunders with Kathy Burke) No. 2
1991 "The Stonk" Hale and Pace (backing band includes David Gilmour and Brian May) No. 1
1992 "(I want to be) Elected" Smear Campaign (Bruce Dickinson, Rowan Atkinson, Angus Deayton) No. 9
1993 "Stick It Out" Right Said Fred and friends No. 4
1994 "Absolutely Fabulous" Absolutely Fabulous (Pet Shop Boys, Jennifer Saunders, Joanna Lumley) No. 6
1995 "Love Can Build a Bridge" Cher, Chrissie Hynde, Neneh Cherry and Eric Clapton No. 1
1997 "Mama/Who Do You Think You Are" The Spice Girls No. 1
1999 "When The Going Gets Tough" Boyzone No. 1
2001 "Uptown Girl" Westlife No. 1
2003 "Spirit in the Sky" Gareth Gates and the Kumars No. 1
2005 "All About You/You've Got a Friend" McFly No. 1
2005 "Is This the Way to Amarillo" † Tony Christie & Peter Kay No. 1
2007 "Walk This Way" Girls Aloud Vs Sugababes
The chart position is at the end. What lot of cover versions there's been. I've no memory at all of 1992 or 1993's effort and "The Stonk" is beyond awful. There's enough good ones on there for them to bring out an album.

Pretty good record since 1995 then... will the new state of the charts change things this time round?

Bunton's recent Children in Need song did fairly well (number 3 or 4, I forget) in the charts so I'm sure "Walk This Way" will be an easy top 10 hit.
I don't get the need for two Comic Relief singles these days....a "serious" pop related one and a comedy one a la "Amarillo" and there's Matt Lucas and Peter Kay doing "I'm Gonna Be (500 miles)" looming this year. I suppose it's all for charity but it's a little self indulgent too.

There are some great vocals from Cribbins near the end of the track. I've still got the CD single somewhere. I think I've got another six of their singles as well!

the cover of Walk this Way is utterly dire - it's a travesty, and is thoroughly disrepectful to the fantastic original.

I wouldn't go that far mate - if it makes a lot of money for charity then it can hardly be a travesty.
