Laying the bet - Planet of The Dead
Without spoiling it, what sort of things do we guess will happen in the new Doctor Who special? Here are some option courtesy of Chris Wing...
o The Doctor will say "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."
o The Doctor and the character played by Michelle Ryan will kiss.
o Michelle Ryan's character will slap the Doctor.
o The Doctor will say "I'm brilliant!"
o Something preposterous will happen in the last 15 minutes that will
divide fans.
o Michelle Ryan's character will have no connection at all to Iris Wyldthyme.
o A planet or alien will be mentioned that only has significance for the fans.
o The Doctor will be driven to a dark act of judgement.
o The Doctor will say "I'm brilliant!" *again*.
o London will feature somehow.
o Regeneration will be mentioned.
o Someone will fart.
o The show will get over 13 million viewers.
o The show will get between 10-13 million viewers.
o The show will get 8-10 million viewers.
o The show will get 6-8 million viewers and all the fans will declare
it's the end of Dr. Who.
Any more likely happenings?Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

- The Doctor will say something mystical sounding that means nothing but later will have HUGE significance. "Yeah, huge. Like the Cream Horn of Dong. Ah, you'd not want to bump into that. Anyway..."
- The Doctor will get slapped by Michelle Ryan's Mum.
- Rose will get mentioned (5 fright points) or pop up on a video screen in the background (10 fright points) or pop her head through a window and say "I really luv travellin' with you Docta!" (20 fright points)
- Matt Smith will appear as the Watcher
- That American woman will appear, or Gethyn will appear, or that newsreader bloke.
- There'll be a crafty nod to Eastenders. "I knew someone called Mo once."
- The Doctor will say "and a happy Easter to all of you at home."
- There won't be any links at all to Torchwood (they wouldn't want the ship to get dragged down by the dinghy)

We'll spend hours moaning about the waste of money flying to Dubai, when they could have just nipped down to Bognor Regis or Skegness for the same sandy effect.
There will be lots of gratuitous shots of Michelle Ryan's tight-fitting catsuit.
The press will be full of witterings about how this is the 200th story.

The Master's return will be foreshadowed while introducing a thread for the other specials.
The Doctor's regeneration will be hinted at.
Numerous comments will be made as to whom will be the new companion.
We'll see all 10th doctor past companions showing their faces at somepoint until they all turn up in the last special.

Depends on the criteria people use, which is something there isn't really a universal consensus on. It tends to be things like Shada, Trial of a Time Lord (is it one story, three, or four?), and sometimes Curse of Fatal Death, Dimensions in Time, and the various Children in Need specials, which cause the disagreements. Also the divided opinions about how many stories the last three episodes of S3 and 4 of New Who comprise
How it works out is that, if you count TTOATL as one story, don't include any of those other things, and count the three John Simm episodes as one story, then The Next Doctor was the 199th story. If you prefer to think of TTOATL as being four, it was the 202nd, and if you add either Shada or Dimensions, it was the 203rd. I'm not sure there's an absolute right or wrong. It's up to the individual in practice.

And apparently if you exclude "Dimensions in Time" but treat "Delta and the Bannerman" and "Dragonfire" as one story because they were made in the same production block, discount "Warriors of the Deep" because it's crap and say three hail mary's on a Sunday during the Chinese Year of the Ram, you're utterly bonkers.

23rd Mar 2009, 10:06 PM #10Dennis, Francois, Melba and Smasher are competing to see who can wine and dine Lola Whitecastle and win the contract to write her memoirs. Can Dennis learn how to be charming? Can Francois concentrate on anything else when food is on the table? Will Smasher keep his temper under control?
If only the 28th century didn't keep popping up to get in Dennis's way...

Who cares what happens, or whether it's the 200th story, as long as we get lots of Michelle Ryantastic catsuit action!
I'll rephrase that...
On second thoughts...

You didn't make one, you just said you thought it was the 204th story.
Personally I think it's the 200th story - like RTD said, if it drums up publicity then why not?
