Favourite story of Series 5.
It's come to that sad moment of the year, when everyone sheds a tear or two and resigns themselves to another six months of normal life before the Christmas special. Which story/episode this year was your favourite, and why? What made it stand out from the rest?

Vincent And The Doctor, because of it being the only story I enjoyed, I'm sorry to say. The Pandoricon Opens, I don't know what to make of it; the other two parters started promisingly and tailed off; and when the next-best one-parter is barely passable...

I went for Vincent And The Doctor as it was a pretty new avenue for the series to go down, The rom-com drama and it was still an episode of Doctor Who! Not sure it would work twice, but it was a magical episode.

I find it hard to decide - in terms of 'punch the air' excitement after the fact, it has to be either the first or last story; but the angel story was also excellent. Hmm...

I've gone for 'The Time Of Angels/Flesh and Stone'. It was action packed, shocking, funny and clever. It delivered in spades without putting a foot wrong. I also adore Adam Smith's direction, for me he's one of the many great new starters of this season.
Bubbling behind would be 'The Eleventh Hour' (purely because it was only one episode) and 'Vincent and The Doctor' - though 'Vincent and The Doctor' might be the greatest Doctor Who story ever. It's so difficult!Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

I loved "The Time Of Angels"/"Flesh and Stone" but I think my favourite story was either "Amy's Choice" or "The Beast Below". The former because it was very well done and nicely quirky - loved the killer old people in the empty village, the latter just because I liked it.

For me, Vincent and The Doctor was the high point. Quite simply it was a magnificent, magical and very moving episode.

It certainly was, for me too.
I'm going to have to rewatch the whole series, now that's we've had the final layer added to it. I've really enjoyed all the episodes this series, bar THE/CB which I found average.
My early thoughts are that my favourite will turn out to be The Eleventh Hour. It was just such a perfect start, and introduction, with such wonderful direction. And it set the tone for the series as it unfolded. I really enjoyed Victory Of The Daleks, and Vincent, Amy's Choice & The Lodger were all brilliant self-contained episodes. The Angels two-parter was easily my favourite mid-season double since Human Nature, but not quite 'up there', and the season finale could still end up stealing the honours.
So I find it a tough choice, and will hold off for now.“If my sons did not want wars, there would be none.” - Gutle Schnaper Rothschild

As it was the first episode I actually got engrossed in, my vote goes to Amy's Choice
I’m being extremely clever up here and there’s no one to stand around looking impressed! What’s the point in having you all?

Don't be ridiculous, Si! The correct order for episodes in terms of quality is this:
The Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone
Vincent and the Doctor
The Eleventh Hour
The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang
Amy's Choice
The Beast Below
Victory of the Daleks
The Lodger
The Vampires of Venice
The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood
Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

"Vampires" was a bit dissapointing wasn't it? Doctor Who STILL needs to do a great proper Vampire story, really creepy. Unfortunately they went to Croatia and did most of it all in very uncreepy bright sunlight!
I thought you said "Vincent and the Doctor" was the Best Story Of All Time? Now it's not even the best story of 2010! You're fickle, McCow!

Vampires in Venice
Vincent and the Doctor
Cold Blood/The Hungry Earth
Amy's Choice
Victory of the Daleks
The Lodger

Matthew, your list is just ker-azy. Why so down on Amy's Choice? What makes The Beast Below the best above?

I don't dislike Amy's Choice, it's just not as strong as some of the others. It's Cold Blood that lifts the Silurian 2-parter above Amy's Choice - The Hungry Earth prevented it from rising any further!

Ha, Ha - you crazy DW fans !
Clearly the correct order is
Amy's Choice
Vincent and the Doctor
Time of Angels/ Flesh and Stone
The Beast Below
Vampires of Venice
Eleventh Hour
Pandorica-Bang
Victory of the Daleks
Hungry Earth - Cold Blood
The Lodger

I read such said post, sir, and found it to be the dribblings of an adle-pated fool.
The Lodger better than Vampires ? Amy's Choice merely a middle-ranking effort ?
For shame, sir. Let us hear no more about itBazinga !

You lot are very organised, and much as I usually love a good list I'm finding it very hard to rank this year at the moment - there were a couple I didn't like so much, but the rest of it was just really good, and episodes 1 & 13 left me with a real perky high for the rest of the day!
