Firefox!
Okay, after the umpteenth 'freeze up' of Internet Explorer on Windows 7, I've taken the plunge and switched to Firefox.
So far so good, until I tried to do a small task which I must do a dozen times a day - save an image from a web page. I right click and Save Image As, but Firefox only gives me the option to save it as a "firefox document" i.e a .url page! WTF? I've discovered if I change the save type to "All files" and type .jpg at the end of the filename, it does save it as a .jpg. But do I have to do this every time? Why does Firefox think an image file is the same as a web page?

Strange, when I tried it, it automatically saved as a jpeg file.

The way to solve it is to stop using Firefox and use the mighty Opera instead

It's taken me ten years to give in and change browser, you expect me to do it twice in one day?
Where's Lissa when you need someone to defend Firefox?

Firefox is supreme! I started using it over IE a few years ago and I've never looked back.
Sometimes it has something to do with plugins/add ons, do you have any plug ins running Si?

I don't have any problems either. Try some of the suggestions here.

Firefox is fantastic though, although Ant will be pleased to know that I also use Opera as my backup.

What do you get when you click to save the banner at the top of this page? I get "file name" as "banner_audio2010.jpg" and the "file type" is blank.
But that's only if I've got the "hide known file type extensions" unchecked in Windows (ie it shows banner_audio2010.jpg in Windows Explorer rather than just banner_audios2010). If I'm hiding extensions then the download dialogue box does just give the file name as "banner_audio2010". It still saves it as a JPG though.
This does seem different to how it used to be but it looks more like a clumsy oversight in a recent upgrade rather than a change in functionality. It still works - it's just a bit awkward if you're new to Firefox and notice the differences.Dennis, Francois, Melba and Smasher are competing to see who can wine and dine Lola Whitecastle and win the contract to write her memoirs. Can Dennis learn how to be charming? Can Francois concentrate on anything else when food is on the table? Will Smasher keep his temper under control?
If only the 28th century didn't keep popping up to get in Dennis's way...

It now seems to take me to .jpg by default, as if it's "learnt" what I wanted to do.
