Sound File Cleanup Advice!
Hello all!
I have some recordings which are very "warm" and "bassy" and I was wondering if there was a tool in Audacity or Nero (or elsewhere!) that could make them sound more "fresh" and "analogue", a bit more crisp and edgy. I'm sure I once knew of a tool to use which "brought the vocals out more" from their somewhat muggy state.
Any ideas?
Si.

Surely this is something where you want to turn the treble up a bit?
Have you cleaned them up from the original tracks much yet? It might be worth going back to the original source and upping the treble from there.

Could you explain on Audacity exactly what you mean by "upping the treble"?
These are the source recordings!
Thanks!

OK - try the 'equalization' effect. That gets you a natty graph. Increase the line round about the 4,000 to 10,000Hz range. That might do it.

Thanks Steve. High Pass Filter actually seems to make it a little less bassy.

You are making a copy of these before changing them aren't you? Every so often when I try and mimic cyberman/dalek voices I get in a right old TISWAS, and have to start again. I also have an awful habit of crashing Audacity as well - my laptop no likes it sometimes!

Um... Yeah. I've learned that much in 6 years of producing these plays.

Oh you'd be surprised - we've had developers at work "caught out" by not backing up their files.
