She most certainly did not, and that's why in my mind she's not a companion, more like an "assistant". In fact, I'm pretty sure she gets referred to as just that on more than one occasion. To me, her "companion" status is equivalent to that of the Brigadier or Benton.
For every fail, there is an equal and opposite win.
...Oh, who am I kidding?

I think my trouble is, I don't think in terms of "companions" (and I don't think in terms of the fictional characters), I think in terms of the actors and whether or not they were "series regulars". So for me, Katarina and Sara Kingdom are definitely not (having been engaged in the short-term to fulfil the requirements of a single story), whereas Benton and Yates and the Brigadier (and later, Jackie Tyler and Mickey) certainly are.
Horses for courses!

The real question is: does River Song count?

Sorry, I've been spending the time since Series 6 ended trying to wipe that wretched character from my memory!

I might be wrong but I'm just getting a very slight vibe that Ant doesn't care to much for River Song!

Hmmm - River Song. Didn't she go off and end up running away with another Mary Sue character, Wesley Crusher?
Remember, just because Davros is dead doesn't mean the Dalek menace has been contained ......
