RANK Series 7 In Full
You knew it was coming... rank the entire series 7. Both parts!
My choices may say more about me than I'd like. You don't have to give your reasons, just rank them. I've used my ratings on this forum for my choices, but I'll also consider how I feel about them now.
As ranked according to my PS poll rankings:
Asylum Of The Daleks
A Town Called Mercy
The Angels Of Manhatten
Cold War
The Crimson Horror (All 10)
Dinosaurs On A Spaceship
The Snowmen (Both 9)
The Power Of Three
Hide
Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS (All 8)
The Bells Of St John
Nightmare In Silver
The Name Of The Doctor (Both 7)
The Rings Of Akhaten (6)
The Doctor, The Widow & The Wardrobe (0)
According to Wiki, the last one is included as part of 7. LIES! It wasn't in Series 7a box! (Thankfully!) Now it's all change as I use hindsight on the episode order.
The Crimson Horror
Dinosaurs On A Spaceship
Asylum Of The Daleks
Cold War
The Angels Take Manhatten
Hide
The Snowmen
A Town Called Mercy
Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS
The Name Of The Doctor
Nightmare In Silver
The Power Of Three
The Rings Of Akhaten
The Bells Of St. John
The Doctor, The Widow & The Wardrobe

Ooo - I couldn't resist in the end Big problem though - it's too hard! The quality has been too bloody consistent this year (or two?). Only two bona fide stinkers, but no obvious all-time classics.
Great:
Nightmare In Silver
A Town Called Mercy
Hide
The Crimson Horror
The Name Of The Doctor
Good:
Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS
The Snowmen
The Bells Of St. John
The Angels Take Manhattan
Dinosaurs On A Spaceship
Cold War
The Power Of Three
Stinky:
Asylum Of The Daleks
The Doctor, The Widow & The Wardrobe
The Rings Of AkhatenPity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

Well, going by my original scores (which probably wouldn't change that much anyway) we get
8 Cold War
7 Dinosaurs on a Spaceship, The Snowmen, Nightmare in Silver
6 A Town called Mercy, Hide, Rings of Akhaten
5 Bells of St John, Power of 3, Journey to COTT, Name of the Doctor, Angels Take Manhattan, Crimson Horror
4 Asylum (though heading down to around 3.5)
So a big average bunch in the middle - a probably predictable higher liking for classic monsters (except Asylum) and a distinct lower liking for stories that overfocus on the companion of the moment.Bazinga !

Great
Dinosaurs On A Spaceship - I really liked this one. A surprise from old Chibbers! Great CG, lots of action, no plot holes. Good villain. Chilling denouement. Yes yes yes yes!
The Crimson Horror - Smith was a bit ropey but this can squeeze through thanks to Dame Diana's star turn!
Hide - Bit disappointing it took a sci-fi turn, but that aside this was very good
The Bells Of St John - Great season opener, good villainess, quirky script. Sort of season starter Russell would have written. The spooner things won't be coming back, but were very scary
The Power Of Three - A flawed ending, but otherwise another dense, quirky, interesting script from Chib.
The Name Of The Doctor - Due to the level of expectation, and throwing colour Hartnell at us in the most scream-inducing story opening ever, I was perfectly happy with this. A shame the ending went over my head as we'd seen him filming for November.
Good
Asylum Of The Daleks - marred by the weird refusal to see the Old Daleks, which they'd sold it to us on. Did someone chicken out? All the souffle girl stuff was crap as well. Why IS this in this category? Oh well. Ice Planet. Ice Planets are good. I'm being generous.
A Town Called Mercy - Whole thing had one, enormous, hungry, impossible plot hole. THAT ASIDE it looked very nice.
The Angels Of Manhatten - Didn't really feel like an Angels story but I quite liked the vibe of this one. AND AT LEAST THEY WENT THIS TIME.
Cold War - Again I'm going to be generous. Substanceless, but full of style. I'm going to be shallow and give this simple script a Good rating. The new Ice Warrior looked great.
Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS - didn't QUITE fulful on its promise of lots of TARDIS rooms (the place still doesn't look cosy!) and a "reversed time" ending is always ropey, but this was enjoyable and the revelation about the burnt people was very spine-tingling.
Nightmare In Silver - The new Cybermen were great! The ending was not. Another mixed story, though still sort of wins out for including enough good stuff.
Bad
The Snowmen - Snowmen underused, weird pacing, unmemorable, semi-regulars uncharming
The Rings Of Akhaten - Alienating in all the wrong ways. Doctor Who has rarely, EVER been dull, but proof that even in this day and age it can be
The Doctor, The Widow & The Wardrobe - Underwealming Christmas Special. Cameos from Androzani people oddly unexciting and inappropriate. Monsters were made of wood, and had as much life. A mess.
See, I loved more of that than I hated, or even was ambivalent about! I think most of the great stories were in 2012, this years have been a more mixed bag.
