Ultimate Doctor Who: Season 17
Douglas Adams takes over as script editor, and there seems to be far more emphasis on comedy moments in the stories, whether they need it or not. The approach proves popular with the general public, who watch in huge numbers, even after ITV comes back on after their lengthy strike.
The Doctor is joined by a newly regenerated Romana and K9, who has had a change of voice this year in a series of adventures that take him back to Skaro and Paris and then off into outer space. The season is tinged with tragedy as Shada remains unfinished due to strike action.
But which one is your favourite?
I've just got my handcuffs and my truncheon and that's enough.

There's only ever going to be one choice for me from this season, City of Death. Amazing story.

Maybe the question should be "what's your second favourite story from S17?"

The Horns of Nimon
Oh no it isn't!
Oh yes it is!
It's just a fun story which during the end of 1979/start of 1980 at pantomime season and I love a good panto. The end of Part Two is particularly memorable where the co-pilot's trousers rip open and makes a far more dramatic cliffhanger than the one we got.

For me City of Death it's what Season 17 wanted to be and The Horns of Nimon was what season 17 actually was. Not a stand out season.

I really want to vote for Shada, but it's Destiny for me. City 3rd.

I love them all, but since City of Death is bound to win (and quite right too) I'm going for Nightmare of Eden - it's just as good as any of them, and some great cliffhangers. Plus the idea of the CET machine really fascinated me as a kid.
I'd love to vote for Shada, and yet somehow Lalla's not as good in that as the others so I just can't quite bring myself to do it.
And twenty-thirdly...

Went for Destiny as I can clearly remember it. And the trails for the new season with a Dalek crashing through that black reflective wall.

City of Death is perhaps the best story here, but nostalgia urges me to go for my first story - Destiny of the Daleks.

I love Nimon, but it's easily City Of Death for me here.

Not quite the walk-, run- and Hop-skip-and-jump-over I was expecting, but City Of Death for me.

Destiny for me. Along with City, watched the repeat in summer 1980 and again would have read the Targets first for the other 3 stories. Semi-nostalgic!

You'll just have to read the forthcoming Gareth Roberts adaptation like the rest of us then!
