Excuse a silly question, but is 8.2 milion good or bad?

BBC News are claiming it's a ratings disaster:
http://0057511.netsolhost.com/bbc:entertainment/
It's slightly up on the 'New Earth' overnight figure. Should be about 8.7m on final figures. It's none too shabby.

8.2 million puts it at No.8 for the week so far:
Overnights 26-31st March
1 - 10.7 Coronation Street
2 - 10.4 Coronation Street
3 - 10.2 Coronation Street
4 - 9.6 Coronation Street
5 - 9.4 EastEnders
6 - 8.6 EastEnders
7 - 8.4 EastEnders
8 - 8.2 Doctor Who
9 - 8.1 EastEnders
10 - 7.8 Emmerdale
11 -7.7 Emmerdale
Only tonight's Corrie (should be about 10 million), Emmerdale (don't think so/Sunday's usually the lowest of the week) and possibly a surge for The Royal tonight (due to that 3 millionish tat on BBC1), but I'd still expect Who's timeshift to lift the final figure to about 8.7 million/above a couple of EastEnders and keep a No.8 or 9 position.
Four Top Ten episodes in a row would be an all-time Who record, wouldn't it? Beating 'The Christmas Invasion-'Tooth and Claw'/'Army of Ghosts'-'Runaway Bride' hat-tricks.
I know it almost happened a few times during Season Two and Season Fourteen, but there weren't as many soapy episodes back then.

Hurrah for overnight ratings, and hurrah for James for bringing them to us! It wouldn't be a new series of Who without a new series ratings thread.
And they're good figures too aren't they. So that's a third hurrah then!

I think that's pretty amazing really. After all, they didn't do half as much pr this year (well, at least compared to the first series anyhow), and not many programmes consistently perform like Who does. Infact bar soaps I can't think of any right now which stay (roughly) between the 7-8 million figure.
So yay! And hopefully the beeb will commission series 5 right now as a thank you to the fans who will buy all of this year's related merchandise!"RIP Henchman No.24."

The return of Doctor Who and the start of a reality show hunt for a new stage Joseph brought a ratings bonanza to BBC1 on Saturday night.
Saturday's premiere of David Tennant's second series as the Time Lord attracted 8.2 million viewers and a 40% share between 7pm and 7.45pm on BBC1, according to unofficial overnights. The episode - also featuring Freema Agyeman as new assistant Martha Jones - peaked at 8.9 million viewers in the quarter hour from 7.30pm.
The programme was 200,000 viewers up on the beginning of the last series in April last year, when 8 million viewers tuned in, a 39% share.
Graham Norton's new reality show, Any Dream Will Do, drew 6.7 million viewers and a 31% share between 7.45pm and 8.45pm, benefiting from inheriting Doctor Who's audience.
Any Dream Will Do, which is looking for a lead to star in a new Andrew Lloyd-Webber production of Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat in London's West End, had a one-week lead-in over ITV1's rival reality show Grease is the Word, which launches next Saturday.
The second part of BBC1's The National Lottery People's Quiz at 8.45pm attracted 6.6 million viewers and a 29% share.
This beat the earlier episode of People's Quiz at 6.15pm, which drew 3.8 million viewers and a 23% share.
Casualty at 9.05pm attracted 6.3 million viewers and a 28% share, while the BBC1 news at 9.55pm drew 5.3 million and a 26% share.
ITV1 couldn't compete, with a repeat of movie Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets between 6pm and 8.50pm pulling in 4.7 million viewers and a 24% share.
Who Wants to be a Millionaire? at 8.50pm attracted 3.7 million viewers and a 17% share, while The Dame Edna Treatment at 9.55pm scored 2.2 million and a 12% share.
BBC2's highest rating show was A Tribute to John Inman at 8.25pm, which drew 2 million viewers and a 9% share, while Channel 4's top programme was terrestrial movie premiere About Schmidt, which pulled in 1.7 million and a 9% share at 9.05pm.
Channel Five's best performer was CSI: NY at 9.05pm, which attracted 2.5 million viewers and an 11% share.Last edited by Milky Tears; 2nd Apr 2007 at 12:24 PM. Reason: linky

It so frustrates me that the BBC can knock out a crappy, worthless episode of "Eastenders" and just instantly get more viewers than Doctor Who.
That said this was obviously a spectacular result!

AI figure of 88, according to OG News Page. Only 'The Parting of the Ways' and 'Doomsday' have been higher.

Come on Milky, where's those overnights?
I'm predicting around 7 million, down on last week due to a) Easter hols b) very good weather and c) possibly the Grease factor on ITV.

8th Apr 2007, 11:23 AM #19Unofficial overnight figures show that episode two, The Shakespeare Code, was watched by 6.8 million viewers.
Although the figure was down on last week the programme was still the most-watched programme of the day, both in terms of audience and share. The Easter Holiday and good weather in the UK saw audiences drop across the day.
Doctor Who comfortably beat its main rivals on ITV1, with Grease is the Word getting just 4 million viewers and Harry Hill 3.9m.
BBC One took all of the top five positions in the day's ratings chart, with Casualty getting 6 million and Any Dream Will Do 5.9m.
During transmission, Doctor Who's audience rose to peak at 8.1m during the last five minutes. It also was top of the children's chart with over double the audience of under 16s of its nearest rival.
Over on BBC Three, Doctor Who Confidential was once again the second most watched programme of the day with 617,000 viewers.

Nice one Matt - the doomsayers will say we're down almost 1.5m, but it's another great audience share, easily top of the day again, almost 1m up on Casualty (which used to beat Who on various occasions over the last two years), and once again batters ITV into submission!
My prediction was pretty accurate too - and no, I didn't know the figure from anywhere when I posted that!

We're doomed!
Heh. Couldn't resist. That's not too bad really, especially as it was the Easter weekend, I wonder if some people were put off a bit by it being based around Shakespeare too...Still, hopefully next week's figures will be a return to 8mil +"RIP Henchman No.24."

Next week's will be interesting - it has a very strong lead-in with the football, and it starts much later at 7.40. Could be a ratings winner! (Tooth and Claw did very well in the same scenario this time last year).

The fifteen and five minute breakdown shows that there's no need to panic. Well, apart from worry about the piss-poor lead in which makes you yearn for the days of Strictly Dance Fever!

6.8m with a high of 8.13m? That'll do for me! It is Easter weekend and a lot of people would've been in the sun yesterday at 7pm, so that's a respectable score. Top for the day too
