I'm sure both Brett and Damon had a timeshare on 'Hot New Star' Justine Frischmann of Elastica. For a while.
When I was younger, my favourite Brett lyric was from 'The Wild Ones'. It was the line 'We'll go to the pond where the ducks still roam each day'.
Now, wiser heads prevail and I realise it was actually 'We'll run from the home where the debts still grow each day'. Those poor ducks never even existed!Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

She had a cracking moustache.
There was that bitter week in November 1994 when Blur released 'End of A Century' (charted at 19) and Suede released 'The Wild Ones' (charted at 18).
I was as torn as Imbruglia.

By then, the summer excitement of Parklife had worn off and Dog Man Star had totally taken me ovvverrrrr... as it were. I remember thinking that End Of A Century already belonged to a different era. Justine's moustache was one of the highlights of Britpop.

I always preferred Sonya Aurora Madan, Louise Wener or even Donna Matthews from Elastica!

I hated Suede when I first saw them, performing "We Are The Pigs" on "Top of the Pops". I don't know why, I just hated that song! Later of course, I recognised the might of singles like "Trash" (what a great song that still is - "we're trash/you and me/like litter on the breeze/we're trash/me and you/in everything we do/in everything we doooooooo!") and it's follow-ups. I was never THAT interested though, perhaps because I bought the "Coming Up" album for my sister instead of myself, and neither of us became fans.
I always hated that bloody Justine Frischmann though. She epitomised the sort of person who wanted to be a celebrity instead of make music - Elastica only ever made one album didn't they (until "The Menace" eight years later anyway!). What a waste - how many people would love to have the chance to release pop albums, they could and just didn't bother. They used to trade off so little for so much - every week Donna Matthews would "leave" Elastica and we were supposed to care even though they hadn't released anything for six years. She was an absolute ligger.

I thought Justine was alright...although God knows she made loads of problems for herself. "Elastica" is a great album imo. (I'm starting to see why the Elastica thread I started once didn't prove popular! )
Glad people remember when it was Suede vs Blur, long before Oasis v. Blur. The Suede/Blur fight was a cult thing I guess, which never made headlines outside the music press. There must have been something about Damon!

I know 'Trash' when I hear it, although when I think of Brett Anderson I can only really visualise the impression David Baddiel used to do of him, which was marginally less camp that Kenneth Williams. I think The Project is going to have to look at the mid-1990s fairly soon; it's one of the rare periods in my life when I had more than a passing interest in music, mainly because for about a year and a half I belonged to a circle of friends and actually went out a bit. Also remember having a bit of a thing for Louise Wener, although the two strands of hair dyed blonde did look a bit sad when you saw somebody who'd obviously decided to copy it.

OMFG Brett Anderson on Twitter!
http://twitter.com/reallybanderson
My faves:
One thing you can say about Blur..they never compromised their essential essence. Total dicks all the way through their career.
The reason DogManStar is so timeless is you can rearrange it to make ManStarDog, StarDogMan, ManDogStar or just leave it as it is
If at first you don't succeed, you're not Brett Anderson.Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

That can't be the real Brett. Even he isn't that obvious!
Oh and he hasn't mentioned Terylene, Gasoline or asphalt, so I don't believe it for one minute.

Oh yeah?
Have to say although getting high on diesel and gasoline is fine, sometimes you just want a nice Lambrini. As thanks for citing the brand name Bostik in Beautiful Ones the Suede office was sent a truck of glues. Sticky situation but we managed.Pity. I have no understanding of the word. It is not registered in my vocabulary bank. EXTERMINATE!

Tragically, it's not Brett. Brett's real Twitter account is deathly boring. Compare and contrast below.

That was mooted here! But now we're going to the Manics, so I don't suppose it'll happen (and tickets were hard to come by).
